Over a three-hour period, Amber created a large-scale sand mandala at Māori Bay, Muriwai, reconnecting with childhood memories of drawing in the sand while exploring the power of movement and impermanence. Wanting to move beyond the simplicity of her early beach drawings, she developed a public-facing artwork that responded to both place and time. After carefully studying the tides, Amber began carving the mandala in the black sand as the afternoon light shifted. Using only hand tools, the process became intuitive and meditative. As the sun set and the tide returned, she completed the work and watched it gradually wash away, embracing the beauty and transience of ephemeral art.

Inspired by Carl Jung’s understanding of the mandala as a symbol of wholeness and inner balance, the work explored impermanence, connection, and the relationship between people, place, and time.
